5 Best Types of Facials that Skin Care Specialist Give

by

Skin care specialists have many different tasks to perform. One major task is giving the perfect facial. But how does one know the difference between facials, and which is best for their client? Choosing the right skin care school is essential in this process, as your training should give you the experience you need to make educated decisions for your clients.

The only way to know which type of facial will be best for each client that walks in the door is to have a broad knowledge of the different techniques available. Currently, there are five exceptionally popular types of facials that skin care specialists are performing daily. They include microdermabrasion, chemical peels, clay masks, acne treatments, and organic masks. What’s the difference? Well, quite a bit, actually. Each type of product is made up of its own specific ingredients and performs individual functions on the skin. Below is a brief description of how each process works.

5 Best Types of Facials that Skin Care Specialists Give

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is one of the oldest known techniques for maintaining younger looking skin. This treatment is used to help remove the top layer of “old” skin and reveal healthy, younger-looking skin that is hiding under the surface. Microdermabrasion can be achieved with a brush, a specialized sponge that is used to create gentle friction against the skin, or with gritty/coarse textured creams that help to pull the dead skin cells away from the skin. Once the treatment is complete it is especially important to rinse the skin thoroughly with clean water to ensure that all dead skin cells have been rinsed away and only healthy skin remains. Microdermabrasion is usually followed up with a soothing moisturizing cream to reinforce hydration and radiance.

Chemical Peel

Ready for chemistry class? Chemical peels can be tricky and need to be handled with care. Each client will have a different level of tolerance for the peel and should be closely monitored while the peel is applied. The benefit of the peel is that it gives an even finish. The skin may appear slightly red immediately following the treatment, but the final product will reveal healthy, younger looking skin.

Clay Mask

Like microdermabrasion, even the ancient cultures commonly utilized the earth’s natural clay to restore the health of their skin. Clay masks are often revered for their skin-tightening properties. Not only do they tighten the skin, but they also help to even the skin tone. Clay masks are rich in antioxidants and vitamins that support skin health. They can heal, moisturize and soften the skin, and balance the pH levels of the face and neck. Certain types of clay masks can also help with fighting blemishes.

Acne Treatment

This can include a variety of methods to help remove existing acne and prevent further blemishes from forming. Generally these treatments include the use of salicylic acid, which, when applied to the pores, helps to penetrate dirt and oil and remove them from the skin. These treatments also include toning the skin and correcting the pH balance. Students are also trained on specialized equipment, which aids in the manual removal of blemishes like blackheads. Acne treatments can be similar in technique to chemical peels, depending on how aggressively the acne needs to be addressed.

Organic Masks

All the rave right now, many clients are asking for all-natural, chemical-free options for their facials. There are countless recipes for organic masks available which can be used for various purposes, from acne, anti-aging, oil removal, tightening, and color balancing. Organic masks are made of all-natural products, including, but not limited to: fruits, vegetables, wild flowers, oats and grains, honey, eggs, milk, and yogurt. These treatments are also rich in antioxidants and vitamins to nourish the skin, but without any potentially harmful chemicals. Special consideration should be taken with organic masks to evaluate each client for food allergies before beginning a treatment to limit the risk of a reaction.
