At Florida Academy, we offer a beauty program that provides a curriculum rich in the most in-demand trends and skills in the beauty industry. Our beauty school trains students in the latest trends in haircutting, coloring and styling.

Our goal is for every student to master hair texture concepts that will leave each of their clients with rave reviews. And because we want our students to be well-rounded and highly skilled, we also offer extensive training in specialized skin care, nail care, including manicures and pedicures, and make-up application. Haircut & Styling

Many people identify themselves based on their hairstyle. The right hairstyle gives a client a sense of self and confidence, but the wrong hairstyle can destroy that confidence. That is why our beauty program goes the extra mile to ensure that our students understand the complete science behind beauty and how it impacts people’s lives.
Our stylist program concentrates on the chemistry and physics of haircare. Our students have a concrete foundation in the science behind skin and hair types, and what types of genetics are prone to specific hair conditions. They understand how different textures of hair respond to different types of shears, how to restore dry and damaged hair, and what types of cuts work best with individual physical features.

Colorist

Working with color is an advanced skill. A colorist must understand what bases and tones go best together on certain hair types to achieve the desired color. Also understanding what types of products are already present on your client’s hair is crucial to ensuring their safety before beginning a color treatment.

Our colorists are trained to not only give amazing all-over color or the perfect shimmering highlights, but to also perform color corrections and color balancing. Our goal is for each of our students to be a highly skilled colorist by the time they graduate.

Manicure/Pedicurist

Florida Academy has a dedicated nail technician program. Our students are trained in basic manicures and pedicures, hand and foot massage, paraffin wax treatments, shellac painting, nail art, 3D in-lay, hand painting, and acrylics. We encourage your inner artist to express itself!

Waxing & Threading

Hair removal can be complicated. Our students are trained on the anatomy of the hair follicle and the effectiveness of techniques. We also encourage our students to be client educators and help them to understand the advantages and disadvantages of various types of hair removal.

Ultimately, the technique chosen should be dependent upon the technician and client’s comfort levels, the coarseness of the hair to be removed, the area of the body where the hair is located, the length of the hair, and the client’s pain tolerance. Our curriculum includes training in waxing, sugaring, threading, and tweezing.

Facials

Our cosmetologists are trained to be advocates for their client’s skin. This means educating their clients on making healthy choices for their skin like avoiding excessive sun exposure, eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and drinking plenty of water.
In addition to supporting healthy skin, our beauty school teaches our students how to restore and heal previously damaged skin. Our students are trained in chemical peels, masks, and skin toning and balancing.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is extremely popular amongst older populations who are fighting the aging process. This is a skill that must be mastered to prevent harm to the patient. When performed correctly, it is a great method to remove old, aged skin and reveal healthy, fresher-looking skin.

Make-Up Application

Make-up application is much more complicated than many people think. It is truly an art. This skill includes regular make-up and permanent make-up application. The artist needs a foundational understanding of skin types, how colors reflect light, the available products on the market, and most importantly, what the client is looking to achieve.
An artist doing make-up for runway shows will likely make different product and color choices than for a client who is getting married. The right make-up can make a big impact in all of the right ways, but the wrong make-up can ruin everything. This is why our beauty program ensures that our artists understand the importance of their craft, and master it.
